14(c) Advocacy

Why Keep 14(c)?

14(c) is a provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it allows adults with disabilities to be paid based on their individual productivity. This important accommodation opens the door to employment for individuals who may not be able to work at a typical pace, allowing them to contribute meaningfully, build skills, and take pride in earning a paycheck. This program provides an additional opportunity for employment but in no way restricts adults with disabilities to pursue other employment opportunities.

In the video, the families share why preserving 14(c) matters. Their voices remind us that inclusive employment should honor choice!

Watch, share, and help us advocate to Keep 14(c).

How Achieve Uses 14(c)

At Achieve Service’s our on-site work utilizes the 14(c) certificate. This process is highly regulated, and we follow strict Department of Labor regulations.  On-site work includes packaging, assembling, and sorting.  Participants are paid based on their productivity while completing these jobs.  All Achieve Service’s community job sites pay minimum wage or higher and do not utilize the 14(c) certificate.

Participants always have the choice to work on-site, work in the community, or a combination of both.
